"There is no old age. There is, as there always was, just you."
Carol Matthau was the real-life model for Holly Golightly, the main character in Truman Capote's novella, Breakfast at Tiffany's, later made into a movie with Audrey Hepburn.
I remember my mother telling me when I was a teenager. "I don't feel any different than I was when I was a teenager." Knowing her way with words, I know she meant she felt like herself just as she had felt like herself as a teenager. She was about 40 at the time. We can't be anyone except ourselves. It is a waste of valuable effort to try.
Excellent! Very powerful statement.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteI like the way she thinks.
ReplyDeleteI read an obituary and learned about Carol Matthau's incredible life story. And now I know who uttered those powerful words. Thank you Jeanne.
