Sunday Snippet: In the Eyes of a Child

Yesterday, I was putting on makeup, in preparation for taking a couple of grandkids to the Yellow Springs Street Fair.

"What's that?" asks Kylie, age 5.

"Highlighter. It covers the dark circles under Grandma's eyes."

"Ooooh."

I finish applying the highlighter, then turn to her.

"What do you think?"

She inspects me carefully.

"Do you have any more?"

  8. They do tell it like they see it.

My son just asks me why I'm "painting my face" and then wants me to paint his.

  9. They are the little people you turn to for honest and constructive criticisms.

How was the trip to the fair? An outing with grandparents is the best! I wonder if the feeling is mutual.

  10. We were there for 3 hours. No worry about the OSU game. Knowing the heart of the Shawnee drank from the springs in lieu of the futuristic jets, and those rookie pilots flying training missions over such a peaceful sliver of America. Wonder if we walked right by you? What a nice day in Ohio! Good to see so many babies and breathe the same air.

  11. Gosh, I love it when kids come out with things like that. I remember when my grandson, aged 4, was looking at me carefully as I ironed his clothes for an outing. Then he said, "Don't iron the crinkles out of your face. I like your crinkles!"

  12. Asking a child what they think is like asking a man if you look fat in your jeans. Don't ask, don't tell.

  13. Remember Art Linkletter? Kids DO say the darndest things! They are too honest.

  14. I will remember not to ask my grand kids what they think, I will just tell them it makes you age, and they will say 'It worked', and then the girls will leave it alone, LOL
