Good Old Mr. Wilson

By now, you've all heard of Joe Wilson, (R, SC), who shouted, “You lie!” during President Obama’s address to Congress on health care reform last week.

To provide some context for the way his emotions overwhelmed him when President Obama was speaking, here’s another tidbit on that good old boy. In 2000, when Wilson was still a state senator, he was one of seven Republicans who voted to keep flying the Confederate flag over the South Carolina state capitol because “the Confederate heritage is very honorable.”

Don't worry, Senator Thurmond, your legacy lives on.

I never paid much attention to all this. Did they drag him out? An elderly gentleman shouted out at the Labour conference (last year I think) and got dragged away.

We have some of the same idiots in my fair city who fly the biggest damn confederate flag you have ever seen. It is right by the interstate and it embarrasses the hell out of me! Why won't the ACLU do something about that I ask you? I am going to take a picture and blog about it...only in America!

Oh, Lord.

I can't believe I didn't remember you lived in Ohio! I even did a quick search on my iphone. Would have loved to hook up with you, but maybe someday soon!

When I saw it on tv I couldn't understand exactly what he said but the news commentators repeated it of course. Now on the other hand I heard exactly what Kanye West said last night at the VMA's.

There seems t be a big dose of rude going around these days....this guy, Kanye West, Serena Williams. Pretty strange, but not very pretty.

Whoa Nellie,
Let's remember a couple things here. Whether or not you agree with what the Senator said on either occasion, you must always defend his right to express it. It seems that many have a negative conotation of the Stars and Bars, so in that vein if you can't preach hate you can't preach love.

As far as Confederate heritage, if we go beyond the all the baggage that is now tied with the Confederate flag and go back to the roots, it can be a good heritage to look at. The main question at that time was who knows a state's rights better the state or the federal government. Alot of the ideas put forth were the same as that were expressed during the Revolution.

The more I hear about this man, the more I understand why he is a politician. He seems to fit the mold.

Mr. Wilson may have expressed himself, but it seemed contrived. If not, "Get a hold of yourself feller."

You bet if someone had heckled any U.S. President in previous administrations, especially the last one, a fury would have risen, the outcry would have been merciless, and a sea of criticism regarding deportment, lack of control, lack of respect for the office, lack of patriotism, and lack of dignity.

Now if the US congress would like to start imitating the British Parliament, that might really give a boost to ratings. A new reality show perhaps.
