And the Winner Is....

The amount of food I had for the Postal Service's Feed the Hungry campaign this morning...

was exceeded only by the amount of expired food I found in the cupboards....

Old Dog actually got a mild case of food poisoning last week from a tiny can of veggies, so thank you! Post Office, for motivating me to review my stocks and weed out the expired and give away anything that was likely to expire before we'd be able to finish it.

The winner, by the way, was the box of chocolate pudding, which expired in December of 2007. God only knows how old the Dog's veggies were.

  3. I have nothing in the kitchen but some expired falafel mix... MUST go shopping.

  4. A great reminder to me to go through and get rid of the old stuff.....my biggest offense is usually salad dressing.

  5. I did the canned goods a few weeks ago and tossed several. Now I really need to hit the shelves of boxed baking mixes. I think there is popover mix from the 1990s.

  6. This is so funny, Jeanne, because after I set all the food out for donation my husband noted that everything was out of date. I honestly had no idea because that's what we've been eating all along. :-o

At his *ahem* "gentle" suggestion, I did a thorough pantry, refrigerator and freezer clean-out. Our cupboards were practically bare--and our next grocery bill was a whopper! LOL

  7. I rotate my stuff all the time. Occasionally we find a jar of jam that would only jam up someone's intestines rather than slide onto a nice piece of toast...lately my cupboard and fridge looks so bare...I buy fresh, can't eat cans unless sauce, due to HB and salt issues...
